MUSC Health-Orangeburg rebrands cancer center

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (May 30, 2024) - As part of its comprehensive rebranding campaign, the MUSC Health - Orangeburg Mabry Cancer Center will serve as a Hollings Cancer Center location. This transformation reflects the integration into the MUSC Health network and its commitment to providing world-class cancer care to Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg and surrounding counties,

The alignment with Hollings Cancer Center, the state鈥檚 only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center, expands access to innovative treatment options, trailblazing research and unparalleled expertise.

鈥淥ur cancer center team is now better positioned to deliver comprehensive care, improving outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for our patients,鈥 said Walter Bennett III, CEO of MUSC Health-Orangeburg. 鈥淥ur Orangeburg providers and staff have been working collaboratively with members of the Hollings team since last year鈥檚 acquisition, but the rebrand is an essential component in communicating this to those we serve. The Hollings name is synonymous with revolutionary cancer treatment, and we want people to know that we can provide the advanced care they need right here in Orangeburg.鈥

As part of Hollings Cancer Center, rural areas like those served by MUSC Health-Orangeburg instantly tap into a network of resources, expertise and advanced technology. Patients gain access to cutting-edge treatments, clinical trials and specialized care previously unavailable locally. Telemedicine and outreach programs can extend the reach of Hollings鈥 services, providing remote consultations and support to patients outside the Charleston area.

Responsible for staffing the center and the medical practices and clinics that support the region, MUSC Health-Orangeburg鈥檚 executive director of ambulatory operations, Echo McAlhany, sees additional benefits of the rebrand.

鈥淩ecruiting providers to rural communities is always a challenge, especially when it comes to specialty care. We believe the shift to Hollings enhances our ability to attract top-tier medical professionals and researchers. Bringing these experts to our area isn鈥檛 just about filling positions; it鈥檚 about nourishing communities with hope, healing and innovation, transforming our region鈥檚 health landscape for generations to come.鈥

This newest expansion is a step forward in Hollings Cancer Center鈥檚 mission to reduce the cancer burden in South Carolina and nationally.

鈥淭he extension of Hollings Cancer Center to Orangeburg marks a pivotal advancement in our commitment to underserved and rural areas,鈥 said Raymond N. DuBois, M.D., Ph.D., director of Hollings Cancer Center. 鈥淭his expansion not only provides crucial access to advanced care but also could amplify the transformative benefits of our research efforts for rural communities.鈥

Patients can expect a seamless transition without interruption of their ongoing care or services. The same dedicated team of physicians, nurses and support staff remains committed to providing personalized, patient-centered care that addresses the unique needs of every individual.

An event commemorating this milestone and honoring the service and commitment of the center鈥檚 former namesake, H. Filmore Mabry, M.D., is planned for later this summer.
